But, people who limit their search to just one funeral home may risk paying more than necessary for the funeral or narrowing their choice of goods and services. - Find out who owns the funeral home you are likely to contact. Believe it or not, it makes a difference. Corporately owned funeral homes tend to charge much more than privately owned funeral homes. Their overhead for premium real estate, exorbitant building maintenance, huge payroll for hundreds of employees is passed down to you, the consumer, in the form of inflated professional services and merchandise, such as caskets. In fact, there are a number of large family owned businesses that operate similarly.
- Ask your place of worship if they will allow a brief period of visitation prior to the service in their facility. Even if they make an additional charge for this, you will still achieve substantial savings from those imposed by a funeral home.
- If you are unaffiliated with a religious institution, we may be able to provide you with alternatives throughout the region.
